Policies and General Information
Service Overview
Brass Tacks provides veterinarian‑ordered and owner‑directed supportive care only. I do not diagnose, prescribe, make treatment decisions, alter care plans, or provide veterinary medical services. Any concerns noted during a visit will be communicated to the owner immediately with the recommendation to contact and follow up with a licensed veterinarian.
Insurance
Brass Tacks Advanced Pet and Equine Care, LLC is fully insured through Business Insurers of the Carolinas for professional pet, equine, and property care. Coverage includes General Liability as well as Care, Custody, and Control for pets and horses under my care. Proof of insurance is available upon request.
Initial Meet and Greet
Please schedule our meet‑and‑greet to allow enough time to discuss your pet’s routines, behaviors, and preferences. Even without significant medical or behavioral history, this conversation helps ensure a smooth care transition. Standard care meetings typically last twenty to thirty minutes for cats or dogs and thirty to sixty minutes for horses/farm animals/properties, including a review of intake documents if we decide move forward.
Initial meetings for advanced clients require added time for task demonstrations, additional forms, order verification with your veterinarian, and lengthier medication and history reviews.
New clients fill out profiles on Time To Pet and sign the service agreement prior to being able to schedule a meet and greet.
Premiums and Radius
Premiums apply per visit and may be combined when applicable (at the discretion of Brass Tacks). Weekend, holiday, rural, after‑hours, and weather premiums are listed on the Premiums Page. The service radius is fifteen miles from the Douglas County Fairgrounds. Rural premiums apply to Franktown and Central/North Larkspur.
Requests made for other areas are considered on a case-by-case basis.
Please refer to Premium Page for full list
Deposits
A forty percent deposit is required for multi‑day bookings, farm/property sitting, and equine post‑travel packages. Deposits are non‑refundable but may be transferred once to a new date with at least seven days' notice.
Safety and Handling
For the safety of all animals and the handler- Brass Tacks may modify or decline tasks if conditions are unsafe, if an animal displays dangerous behavior, or if the environment presents a risk (loose dogs, unstable footing, malfunctioning gates, etc.). Safety and handling decisions are made at the discretion of Brass Tacks.
After‑Hours and Emergencies
Brass Tacks provides scheduled care during standard service hours and does not provide emergency veterinary services. After‑hours requests may be considered on a case‑by‑case basis but are not guaranteed. If your pet or horse experiences a medical emergency outside scheduled visit times, you must contact your veterinarian or the nearest emergency facility.
Emergency Protocol
If a concern is noted during a visit, the owner will be contacted immediately. If the owner cannot be reached and the situation appears urgent, the veterinarian(s) listed in the Service Agreement will be contacted. Otherwise the nearest equine or pet emergency facility will be contacted, as outlined in the Service Agreement and other intake documents.
